Thanks to the modern electric automatic toaster, you can have that perfect toast that you desire every morning. A toaster can be used to heat many other things besides bread. But of course, its main purpose is to make great toast and here is how they should be used.

Steps with Using  Toaster

Step 1: Power up

The first thing to do when you get a toaster delivered is to remove all the packaging and discard all the cardboard and plastic in an environmentally friendly manner and then power it up by simply plugging it in on your countertop.

Step 2: Choose the Right Bread

Bread comes in a variety of sizes and textures. Your toaster can toast almost every kind of bread. The only limitation is that it has to be the right size. If it is very small it will go deep in the slot and difficult to retrieve, if it is too large that it will not go all the way in the slot and the part sticking out will not be toasted.

But the most difficult is the bread which is way too thick for the slots of your toaster. If you try to push in a thick bread slice, it will go in if your tug and push it, but there is a good chance that it will get stuck when done. You will have to use a wooden spatula to take it out and even then there are chances that it will break.

Step 3: Choose the Time to Toast

A toaster is a simple appliance with simple controls. There is a lever or knob that says toasting level and marked from 1 to 5. 1 being the lightest shade of brown and 5 the darkest. All this knob does is to set a timer from 1 to 5 minutes for the toaster to operate.

Step 4: Press the Toasting Level

Press this lever all the way down until to feel a click. This lowers the bread in the toasting cavity and lever locks the mechanism so that the bread stays down. This also connects the heaters of the toaster to the electrical circuit. The heating wires start to warm up and the toasting starts. After a time interval as determined by the timer, the toaster will shut off, the holding mechanism releases the toasts, which pop-up halfway up the toaster slots.

Step 5: Remove the Bread

Now the bread is fully toasted and may be removed from the toaster. Remember the toasts will be very hot to touch so give them few seconds to cool down before picking them up.

Operational Tips:

  • Give heavier and thicker bread longer time than thinner bread.
  • When toasting a new type of bread, err on the side of setting a lighter color rather than darker. After the first attempt adjust the timer accordingly to get a perfect toast.
  • Every week or so clean the toaster my removing the crumb tray and removing any breadcrumbs. Also turn the toaster upside down to remove any remaining breadcrumbs sticking to its sides and bottom.
  • Use a toaster bag if you wish to make a cheese sandwich.

Final Warning:

Never out anything metallic like spoon or fork in the toaster slots while it is on as it may give you an electric shock.
