How to use a Coffee Machine – Basic Simple Steps

Greetings once again and a question raised numerous times across the community is how do you use a Coffee machine so if you need some help with this, then please take a quick glance through this post which covers the main points and functions you need to know.

As the instructions will vary considerably from model to model, please also ensure that you read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions at all times as these as general steps to be noted for filter ground coffee.

Step 1 – Select correct Coffee

The first thing to do is select the correct coffee type be it Coffee granules or ground coffee. If you do not have a grinder included, always make sure to select the ground coffee type which will be in a powder format. For fresher ground coffee, grind the coffee beans yourself to guarantee the freshest possible outcomes.

Step 2 – Sealed

Make sure the ground coffee you intend to use has been sealed properly and has not been exposed to air for a long period of time. Over exposure to air will reduce the aroma and flavours you associate with fresh tasting coffee. Also make sure that they are stored in a dry, cool, dark place.

Step 3 - Filter Selection

Select the correct filter as recommended by the model’s manufacturer be it a standard paper filter or a higher specification mesh filter or a heavy duty cloth filter. Examples of filters that may can help you are also outlined below – simply click any to view larger…

Step 4 – Volume

Add the correct volume of coffee granules or ground coffee be it for yourself alone or for a specific number of people in the filter and add the filter into the basket. There is usually an indicator on the pot to tell you what levels you need to work to for the water.

Step 5 - Coffee and Water Ratio

On average you will be adding between 2 and 2.5 tablespoons of coffee for every 6 oz. of water depending on how strong you want it and also the type of coffee brand you use. You can check the coffee to water ratio as specified by your coffee brand on their labels

Step 6 - Insert the Basket

At this point, add the basket with the filter and coffee into the machine slots and make sure it is tightly secured

Step 7 – Water

Next add in a specified quantity of water to the water container or compartment above using the coffee pot which should be in line with the coffee to water ratio already mentioned.  Use the line markers on the side of the pot as a guide to help you. Never pour the water directly into the filter basket – only into the reservoir.

Step 8 - Plate

Once the water is poured in using the Coffee pot, place the Coffee pot on the hot base plate and allow it to brew and drip in.

Step 9 - Power up

Once the basket with the coffee and filter is added along with the water, simply switch on the machine and let it start to do its work and remove the basket once completed to avoid over extraction on the coffee. If it does not have an auto shut off, you will need to monitor it closely so that it is turned off when it is supposed to.

Step 10 – Enjoy

Now you can sit back, relax and enjoy a beautiful tasting coffee and always discard used paper filters – never re-use them
