Cleaning Method

Step 1: Unplug

Unplug the food processor from the electrical mains. This is an important safety precaution to be followed when handling any electrical appliance.

Step 2: Disassemble it

Remove the lid from the bowl. Remove the blade from the motor spindle. Be careful with the blade as it is very sharp. Then remove the bowl from the base of the machine. You will need to use firm pressure to unlock the locking mechanism that secures the bowl to the base. Now you will have the base, the pusher, the lid, the blade and bowl separate from each other.

Step 3: Wash it

Wash all removable parts in the sink with cold water and dishwashing liquid. Do not use any abrasive pad or powder. Clean with the soft brush or sponge. These removable parts can also be cleaned in a dishwasher. Carefully look at all the hard to get hidden areas and clean them with the soft brush.

Step 4: Cleaning the Base

The base of the unit contains the electrical motor and other control mechanism. It should not be immersed in water. Use a damp cloth and wipe down all sides of the base. If there is a hard stain on it use a few drops of dishwashing liquid and rubbed it clean with the sponge. Look for grime around the buttons. Take a Q-tip and put a drop of cleaning liquid on the tip. Now clean the area around the buttons using the Q-tip.

Step 5: Dry and assemble

Wipe all the parts with a clean dry cloth and air dry for a few minutes. Now you may assemble the unit and store in a safe place. If you use the food processor every day then find a place for it on the countertop.

Extra Tips:

1. If the food processor seems smelly, mix some baking soda with water and pour it in the bowl. Let it stand for 15-20 minutes. Now run it for a few seconds.  All the odors will be absorbed by the baking soda and you can now drain and wash the bowl.

2. To avoid any bacteria growth mix 1 to 1 ratio vinegar and water and pour into the bowl. Let it stand for 30 minutes. Run it for a few seconds. Drain and rinse with fresh water. This should eliminate any bacteria growth.

3. If you are making hummus, puree or peanut butter, once you finish the job a lot of material gets stuck to the blade.  Instead of scraping the blade and easier way is, to remove all the material from the bowl and then run the food processor empty for a few seconds. All the material stuck to the blades will fly off onto the sides of the bowl. Now you can remove the blade and scrape all material from the bowl.
