Another question we have seen asked numerous times across the community is how do you choose an ironing board or how do you go about buying a suitable Iron board – so take a quick read through this post which outlines of the main points you need to consider before you buy.

Points to Consider before you buy an Iron Board:

Size / Dimensions:

Where do you plan to use it? Have you enough space to accommodate the length of your chosen Iron board?  Take a look at several rooms – not just one and pick a spot that close to a power source that will be able to fit your chosen Iron Board. Measure the widest point and also the length from the nose to the end including the iron rest holder and keep them by your side as you are browsing and researching.

The only disadvantage for the built in iron boards is that they are much smaller in size and therefore are only suitable for smaller garments.

Width:

Are the clothes that need to be ironed large and wide? If so, then choose the wider models that can be 18 to 20 inches in width or more to accommodate wider garments.

Iron Rest Holder:

Always make sure that there is a place where the Iron can be rested to one side to avoid any unnecessary scorch marks and also to protect your garments and also your hands. It needs to be made from solid construction and also needs to be able to carry the weight of the iron that you are using.

Non- Slip Legs:

That last thing you want is an iron board that won’t stay in position and keeps slipping from your grasp – always make sure that the Iron board you select has the necessary on slip legs holders that also will avoid any potential accidents that may can occur. The 4-pronged legs always prove to be more stable with the non-slip cushions on each foot.

Adjustable Heights:

There is no point in buying an Iron board that is very low for people who are very tall who will be doing most of the Ironing. Make sure that the heights can be adjusted to whatever height you are instead of having to bend over all the time giving you uncomfortable pains in your lower back.

Brands:

Only choose an Iron board from a brand that is recognized within the industry or even one that you are familiar with already and that you can trust. The last thing you want is the Iron board breaking down after a few weeks – the brands reputation is on the line so make sure you select a brand that is trustworthy and also has several years’ experience in the industry.

Support System:

You can choose between an iron board that is built in or an iron board that is portable and can be folded away when not in use. The most popular are certainly the Portable type however you should also consider the possibility of having a built in Iron Board behind a cabinet which can allow you to have it neatly tucked away and folded up – all you need to do is simply pull it down and you don’t have to worry about it toppling over or slipping across your floor surfaces. The main advantage of the built in Iron board is the fact that you have 100% stability and sturdiness and never have to worry about it toppling over.

Frame Stability:

If you wish to buy a portable Iron board, then you also need to make sure that the construction and the design are solid and sturdy to make sure that it won’t topple over when you are ironing. Check the material of the construction and be aware that the lower priced cheaper models will not have the same strength of stability as the more premium board models and they will tend to be more flimsy, wobbly and less reliable with heavier linen. If it topples over, there is a good chance that it will mark or even damage your floor surfaces.

Cover Quality & Padding

The higher priced models will have a better-quality cover and pad also which will be better at reflecting heat and also avoiding burnt marks. When you are buying the iron board, take a closer look also at the texture, thickness of the cover also so that it won’t need to be replaced in a short period of time. The pad ideally should be in the range of 4 to 8mm in thickness ideally.
